Only when they are molting do predator fish actively seek them as a food source.Ģ)They love to clip vegetation which has a negative effect on dissolved O2 levels in lakes because plants are destroyed before they can adequately provide O2 in the amounts sufficient for proper aquatic survival of living organisms.ģ)They are mass consumers of fish eggs even more so than almost any cyprinid or minnow in fresh water lake systems. Here's some of the reasons why they should be controlled!ġ)They don't contribute to the foodchain because their carapace or shell is to hard for fish to digest properly. The consequences since that time have been overlooked and understudied. Sometime between 19 Rusty crawfish were brought into the state by Southern fishermen interested in using them for bait.
